Common Reactions

The Great San Francisco Earthquake shattered more than just records, it shattered homes and lives of hundreds of thousands of residents. The obvious knee - jerk response to seeing your life and livelihood going down in flames is: panic. People run, loot, steal, leave their loved ones during times like this. This pattern has been shown repeatedly, most recently with the citizens affected by Hurricane Katrina. The law was gone, and the anarchy reigned the areas with looters and crime.
However, the next step in the pattern is to pull together. People from all over the country send money, spend time, and give refuge to their fellow Americans who may have been hurt by these unforeseen disasters. Many times we will look to the leaders in place to guide us, and give us hope. Americans on the whole are a group of re builders. Even after such a catastrophic event, we rebuild the area, we will never leave it as it is.
